What this site measures, why it measures it, and how to stop it.
What runs on this site
The pages here carry one small piece of analytics code, the Portfolio Pulse beacon. It is an inline script at the end of the page. It sends one request to our own analytics endpoint, https://pulse-e5r.pages.dev/api/beacon, and nothing else on this site measures you.
What the beacon sends
- the site id
belivor, so the receiver knows which site the hit belongs to; - a random session id, generated in your browser and stored in
sessionStorageunder the keypulse_s. It is not tied to your name, your account or any other site, and it disappears when the tab closes; - the page path and query string you are reading (for example
/privacy); - the referrer, meaning the address of the page that linked you here, when your browser sends one;
- two events:
pvwhen the page loads, andengagedfour seconds later if the page is still open.
Why
First-party traffic analytics. We want to know which pages are read and whether a visit lasts long enough to count as engaged, so we can tell whether the site is doing its job. That is the whole purpose: page reads and engagement, for this site only.
What it does not do
- It sets no cookies.
- It shares nothing with advertisers, ad networks, or data brokers, because it sends nothing to them.
- It does not build a profile of you across other websites, and it does not collect your name, email address, or anything you type into the contact form (that form posts only when you press Send).
- It does not run on the gated console at
/control.
How to opt out
The beacon is a script like any other, so you can block it. Block requests to pulse-e5r.pages.dev in your browser, your content blocker, or your network, and the page will keep working exactly as it does now; only the measurement stops. Clearing sessionStorage for this site also starts a fresh session id.
